Next Generation's services include pre-commercial thinning, commercial thinning, harvesting, management plans and planting (although we do not have our own planting crew, we make arrangements for lots that we harvest to be planted if necessary).

Our silviculture services (pre-commercial thinning, commercial thinning and planting) are funded by large companies and government associations such as NewPage Port Hawkesbury (formerly StoraEnso), EnLigna (formerly MacTara), Wagner Forest Management Ltd., and the Association for Sustainable Forestry. The demand for these services continue to increase annually.

Next Generation has provided forest management services to over 150 private sector clients. Some of our clients are absentee owners and reside outside of Nova Scotia.  These clients trust our service to the extent they choose not to spend time on site.  Other clients, many retired, choose to take a "hands on" approach to managing their woodlots.  Up-to-date files and forest management plans document a woodlot's activities and describes future treatments which can help minimize taxes.

We would enjoy discussing and assessing the potential of any woodlot within our service areas (Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough Counties). Next Generation can provide information regarding tax incentives and available silviculture funding for woodlot management applications.

Photo above is a pine plantation before commercial thinning was implemented.  The photo below shows the difference after individual trees were removed.
Not only does commercial thinning increase the development of the residual trees in the stand but also provides revenue from the wood volume removed.
